Sacred Food
— Nara Food Caravan

The sense of an all encompassing eternal foreignness is felt when entering Nara. The sense of longing wafts through the ancient landscape far from the imagination of those living in the present. Unfathomable to our present day information centric society; the encounter to a vivacious inter-cultural past, fused with the imagination of the ancient culture unique to this island country Japan.

My thoughts radiate to “Nara, an array of colors,” that is most likely a true freak of nature. Through this project we endeavor to unearth the undiscovered beauty within Nara. We wish to connect the dots through “food,” and to share this common ground through the art of “eating.”

The Nara Food Caravan project is spearheaded by a community of specialists in numerous fields working with local farmers and artists. This is a food research team providing knowledge regarding food in several spheres. Our mission extends to a film component in hopes of capturing the progression for the future. Our focal point this time is Nara; an era in Japan history rich in international exchange. My thoughts radiate to “Nara, an array of colors,” to the days of the silk road when international trade flourished and was the true epicentre of Buddhism, Art, and Culinary culture. We endeavor to unearth and rediscover the beauty within Nara with a unique standpoint. We wish to share this common ground through the art of “eating.”
